September 29 - October 8, 2017
The Fall Studio Tour will feature a variety of unique handcrafted works created in Cook County.
Stops include home studios as well as galleries with guest artists. This new event (replacing Crossing Borders Studio Tour) will feature 14 stops and more than 40 artists along one of the most scenic fall color drives in Minnesota. The event will give visitors an opportunity to meet with artists in their home studios, as well as visit with guest artists at local art galleries. All locations will be open daily, from 10am-5pm. Lou will be in his Hovland studio/shop turning bowls the entire time during this tour. He also has a large number of completed wood bowls (see below). This tour is a great opportunity to see artists in their shops and learn how they do their craft. Click HERE for a complete list of artists and galleries. This link is to a printable pdf file of a brochure with a map of all locations. Look for the following Logo on large signs as you drive along Hwy 61 along the north shore.
More artists/galleries will be added to this tour as the date approaches and more detailed studio location information will become available. Click HERE for the most recent updated information and print the location map and details if you plan to come to the studio tour. For example, if you plan to visit my wood turning studio in Hovland, it will be helpful for you to know that my shop is at the end of Tamarack Trl which is on the lakeside exactly at milepost 132 on highway 61. Parking is also limited by my shop so consider parking on highway 61. There is a wide shoulder and only a short walk on Tamarack Trl to my shop. I hope to see you there!
Below are images of Lou turning a small cherry burl bowl and of the current bowl inventory in his shop gallery. Most artists rarely open their studios and shops for visitors so the Art Along the Lake Studio Tour is a great opportunity to see artists doing their craft in their studios. Refreshments will also be available in most of the studios and galleries. I have also included the latest map to all of the studios and galleries on the tour.
