Mesquite Burls

I turned two mesquite burl bowls a few days ago. The burls were provided by a customer for commissioned bowls. These had interesting and challenging shapes and of course I love a challenge. In the galleries below are images of the two burls and the rough turned bowls still on the lathe. I worked hard on this project since the burls have important sentimental value to the customer. The bowls need some time to dry before finishing. Mesquite burl wood is quite hard!

The first gallery is of mesquite burl 1 with the turned burls, all on the lathe. This bowl is about 8" in diameter.

The second gallery is of mesquite burl 2 with the turned burls, all on the lathe. This burl had a challenging shape. The bowl is about 8" in diameter.
